I would also argue CrossFit socialized fitness similar to running clubs. Most people aren’t motivated on their own but if they know their friends are expecting them at class, they’ll show up. Globe-gym has some classes that might promote the same but you don’t go to a cookout with your spin-class (generally). I enjoy the social camaraderie. And if shit ever hits the fan, I’ll be glad to know people that are physically ready to dominate the world.
Agreed, I think it’s best to look at it as a sport and a less than ideal resistance training regimen imo
