Spent the weekend rebuilding this double door fence gate. Had to sink a new post as well (a clear out 2 feet of old concrete)

I had a fence built last year and I’ve thought about doing this as well. They say stains and paints make it last longer, but I’m not so convinced. Thoughts?
I bet it would increase the longevity of the boards, not sure by how much. For me it was more of an aesthetic (and HOA 😒) choice.
Probably depends on climate too. Pretty dry here in Colorado, so I’m less worried about water damage.
