swallow your pride and ask permission to practice and build up skills. and its a fun hobby to increase interest in your kids on RF, comms & electronics.

you could not ask permission and probably get away with it for awhile until someone decides to go on a fox hunt

I wouldn't say it's "pride" so much as love of liberty.

In #bitcoin we try to avoid KYC for how it could be used in the future. I'm just thinking about the parallel concern with comms, and (literally) what the consequences would be.

I can understand that. but theres no real way around it. you can buy a radio build an antenna and start broadcasting without permission no one can stop you but then be ready to pay the fines if you get caught.

Seeing this on the repost way after the fact.

You'll be able to learn more, faster if you're legal. Just use an address that isn't your home for the license. You just need to be able to receive mail there. If SHTF nobody will care about licenses. It's worth paying the liberty price now for the advanced skills you'll have available later. Studying for the test will teach you things that may someday prevent damage to an irreplaceable radio, also. It's a tradeoff.
