From today’s sermon:

“Faith is something we all have by baptism and through the grace of God. You don’t feel faith, not because it’s not there, but because you don’t exercise it.

Just like your body is there, but you don’t feel its strength if you don’t go to the gym.

Therefore, reinforce your bodies, and reinforce your faith.”

Also we need to pray for the gift of faith. It's given initially, so we can't gain it on our own. Lots of Christians struggle with faith, hope, and charity, but never ask God for those virtues.

Praying is one of the exercises the priest told us to do to “work out” our faith to strengthen it. For those who struggle, an inwards reflection is due, to help figure out why they have been away from God, to figure out what separates them the Lord.

Once that has been done, a confession is in order, and then repentance.

Faith, hope, and charity are all similar in that they are, at heart, acts of the will, but we confuse them for emotional dispositions. You gotta work at them, they don't just come to you.

That is precisely it. We must act. Emotions will not bear fruits, but acts will.
