I will never pronounce it jiff. Just sounds so wrong.

The G stands for Graphics. The G in graphics is hard. So I say gif not jif. Though Gin is pronounced Jin. So say whatever you like. I will understand either way.

I am a German. German only has hard G. Problem solved.

In Swedish, 'g's are hard and single consonants gives a long preceding vowel so I always pronounced it 'giif'.
