Why don't you run a lightning node?
WHY?! 😭

Done. 🤟
Yep run a node and use Zeus. I do this because when I got here that’s what all the cool kids were doing.
PV 💜 because I have to learn how to do it ! I’m using Embassy OS as my bitcoin node ! Should just take the time to learn !
I’ve also set up embassy OS
I am running a node with a private channel one with a small amount of liquidity, but not connected with large public channels or nodes. I use Zeus wallet for it.
Wouldn’t we require connection to multiple large public nodes with well established routes to have lower fees per hop and connectivity to relay payments to many? Also, liquidity management and keeping the relay online (self-hosted) without force channel closure is tricky for me while traveling.
My precious, precious satoshis
Because thanks to Olympus, soon I don't have to!
Until then I do ⚡
Trying to decide between core lightning or LND? Anyone got any options?
I don't have a spare computer that I think is capable of it. Yet. May have one coming within a couple of months though. I also need to do a bit of research on how to set it up, but I see that as the smaller problem. I don't know exactly what's involved, any risks to the BTC I put into it, potential fee revenue, how automated channel balancing has become, etc. If I need to manually balance it several times a day, it won't work, as I don't work from home and can't take breaks from work to do it by remote.
You can run a lightning node from an android phone. Performance req is very low.
I do have an old netbook laying around. Do you think it would be enough? It's Intel architecture though, so it might be hard to find a working Linux distro for it nowadays, at least of a variety that I can use well enough...
I'm sure it has plenty of resources to run a full node + lightning. There are plenty x86 Linux distros. All you need for a full node is storage. If you're just doing lightning, not even that. Although you would be relying on someone else's full node to broadcast transactions for opening channels and what not.
i do but it is a pain in the ass 😅
I don't need a lot of sats in Lightning right now, and there's a lot more involved maintaining a Lightning node than my base chain node.
I haven't bought the pfsense router I want to segregate off the network I want the node to be on.
Genuinely. That's the reason lol
PV 🤙 おはよう☀️☕️
Corriendo hace un par de semanas.
¡Gracias por la interface! Es muy práctica y útil.
Working on it as we speak.
…and I plan to use Zeus. 🤙🏽
Any good guide to make one? Does it need to be always online? I have many questions…
I don’t run a lightning node; I run two lightning nodes.
I do. And I connect to it over tor using your amazing app 👍
I want to but it seems complex. I’m worried that doing it wrong will compromise my network security or privacy.
i lost money using umbrel
How did it happen?
i sent 250000 sats to my node when the node said
it can now be funded. i sent it and i could see it on umbrel
the downloading of the umbrel version of bitcoin core made the computer crash. when it came up, the money was gone.
i can track my funding on mempool using the tx id and the funding address. it is one transaction to an unknown btc1 address. i have tried all 'tools' including chantools from oliver gugger the bitcoin developer. my funds are still stuck in this btc1 address which is not my umbrel address. umbrel does not respond
Sorry to hear that. Did the server’s specs caused the crash?
i do not know what caused the crash
bitcoin has 12-24 words as seed. but this is a different system than bitcoin. of course i kept the seed and thought i could restore using the seed. it is not possible. no one told me that. umbrel did not show the warning when i funded the node. only when i generated the seed umbrel told me that i had to save the seed words which i did of course.
lightning is a seperate network, has a seperate seed system, and it is centralized, has owners and 'management'. i find it very weird that now they even tell you that you can lose your money.
Uh huh.
Sounds like a very unfortunate case of bitrot
Go on, sing about the backfooted now, doc.
Add cream to the trial.
