It would indeed be very useful. Unfortunately if similar to the current design it would tell everyone who is in the group. A different design might be possible using blinding techniques but that introduces new problems like I'm not sure how relays can DoS limit it.
I like Slashtags for this, where privacy matters zero metadata is the way to go imo
