My wife is falling in love with working out and it's kind of awesome π
I've found that investing a little bit in creating a home gym has lowered the barrier of entry for both her and the kids into consistent exercise

π€πΎ same!
I had access to a gym for free, and even got paid for working out one hour a week at my last job.... however, working out at home was way more comfortable, especially since I didn't know how to really use any of the equipment, and it was a 95% or more man dominated place. (I still got paid)
So, I see how a home gym, especially if you can also show them how to use the stuff, would definitely make it easier to get around to it!! π
Lesson in there, environment makes a big difference. More for some than others
Whatβs your equipment set up?
adjustable dumbbells
cheap brand (Walmart mikolo) power rack and weights
nice barbell
adjustable kettlebell
Gymnastic rings and rope
horse mats for flooring
and lot of empty space (dedicated half the garage)
even for men it's an intimidating and unpleasant place to be. an inordinate number of gym visitors are gays and after they work out they do things in the sauna.
for us it's really about time
with school, work, church, and kid sports it's much easier to be consistent if we can cut out travel and prep time for the gym
a home gym doesn't need to be complcated anyway, pretty much, the spongy floor, a set of weights, maybe a bench. most important are the body weight resistance. oh yes and a pull up bar. probably under $500 for the whole kit. having someone to call the reps can be good for body weight resistance also, so it's great to have a group to boost motivation
Agreed, we started with cheap spongy flooring and some dumbbells
Working out is very important for everyone, especially for people with too much sitting hours in the office
