Doubt that played a part. That race is a fast one. High heat on a humid day can exacerbate issues fast.

At the end of the most recent half marathon I ran (also unseasonably hot) I ended up needing to steal some water from the VIP tent from heat stress. And as a RD Ive pulled people from ultras with less than 3 miles to go due to concerns over potential heat stroke.
