Um... I may have just lost all my bitcoin on Alby Hub.

Still waiting to find out if it is, because the channel closed on me without any prior notification, or if it just vanished into the void.

I just hear all this debating constantly back and fourth of lightning, ecash, lightning, no ecash!

All I am really thinking is. Why the fuck are people so impatient?

Let's go back to our roots and give Nostr users the 3rd option.

Traditional good old fashioned no non-sense, no bullshit, regular bitcoin address fields on their profiles to copy pasta for manual transactions to support your favorite users on Nostr.

So what if it is a little slower.

Patience is a virtue and I believe it is worth waiting for.

I'm glad you posted this.

I made the decision four or so years ago to ignore LN because I didn't have the time to deal with these headaches.

Since the tools have improved considerably in the last year been thinking about getting into it in a serious way.

People like nostr:npub1yxp7j36cfqws7yj0hkfu2mx25308u4zua6ud22zglxp98ayhh96s8c399s keep asserting that anybody can run a LN node and manage their own liquidity without significant problems.

Personally I'm not convinced LN will EVER be something the end user directly interacts with. Maybe its just another settlement layer.

Its just not useful to maintain that infrastructure just to be able to send a few hundred dollars worth of sats and you might as well use a custodian.

Either way though, like you said

I'm gonna wait a few more years.

if people actually used btc peer 2 peer in their everyday dealings...like at the grocery store, lightning becomes very powerful compared to on chain btc and monero. especially uf you could open channels to vendors you buy from.

but, at least where i live...so fking far from that.

yeah but there are very few local businesses I would be comfortable opening channels with.

not because they are unreliable but because they don't understand the infrastructure.

and can you imagine trying to figure out the LN policy of larger companies and dealing with customer service if they close on you?

I find it hard to believe

at this point anyway

that every business is going to employ a LN node manager.

more likely they just outsource it

if theyre offering LN payment at all.

very true, what a ridiculous nightmare that would be. i was,thinking more like...my local handyman or. ..barber, something smaller. but yes youd inevitably run into a shit channel partner operatng in this manner.

otoh I'd love to have channels with other bitcoiners that I regularly transact with!

even if it's just on Zeus and we spend a sec to sync up before sending.
