Proposal: have a setting for “prefers discourse”. When an author enables this setting, they will not see reactions, AND readers will see some visual indicator that the author would much prefer actual content posts than a simple reaction or zap.

This honors both the author’s and the reader’s preferences. The reader knows the author won’t see the like, but they still have the choice, and they know that their content response is extra appreciated.
