Every social network (etc) I have ever spent time on has left me feeling drained when I sign off. MySpace, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Reddit, you name it.

The purpose-built dopamine hits, combined with the negative-energy engagement algorithms, create an early-stage digital dystopia.

Not on Nostr. I’m happy when I hang out here. I see people full of enthusiasm, humor, passion, intellectual curiosity, and earnest conversation. Not to mention some 🔥 memes…

When you see people say “it feels different here”, that’s because it IS different. This protocol offers a more transparent view into digital community.

And I, for one, am delighted to be here 💜🤙

At least for Twitter, these things start off as a convenience for the person as a way to catch up on what the people you’re following “likes”. But it inherently becomes an echo chamber, which is why we introduced following topics.

In any case, best as we use these algorithms that we can see how they prioritize, and more importantly, that we can turn them off or change them out.

I wonder if we could start following hashtags or specific searches. Could that be the equivalent of topics?

yes

yes, you can follow hashtags on member.cash

When can membercoin return to normal?#member

You can on Damus

You can on amethyst too.. 👍🏻

Our hope is that the dystopian qualities of legacy social media are consequences of centralization and will be ameliorated by nostr’s decentralization.

Will our hopes be realized? Or is it wishful thinking?

Fuckin hell bruv. Preach on. My Reddit time is like a social media death match. I welcome you.

🤙

Exactly had same feelings, Nostr 🥇
