The existence of #Nostr makes #Bitcoin stronger.

It’s important not to forget that one of the critical attack vectors against Bitcoin is controlling communication channels. The internet is an underlying layer to Bitcoin. Encrypted chat, decentralized/federated networks, P2P file transfer, P2P markets, IP address protection protocols - these things can be just as important as coinjoins, signature aggregation, stratum v2, lightning, etc.

All of these *compound* their benefits when used together among a group. #Nostr and #Holepunch are some of the most important things happening in bitcoin, imo. They are solving problems on layer 0.

I'm not an expert on that topic but the hypercores and the things around Holepunch have their systems of communications and transmission of information in a torrent encrypted form, storing information distributed through all nodes in the network (not on centralized servers)

The benefit of this is that your information can't be accessed by anyone, it doesn't relay on centralized servers and information can flow pretty quickly with low bandwidth. Something awesome to make things like videogames, I guess 🤷.

Theoretically, you can make any app in this way, but the problem seems to be the lack of incentives to be part of the network or to develop the apps

Any work being done on decentralized identities being integrated into Nostr?

Nostr already is decentralized identity really. There’s no need for a consensus network or universal index when it comes to ID in my thinking. Slashtags guys still have something big that they’ve been building quietly for a while now that will be huge in that arena. Another big reason I’ve been so closely watching Keet and that whole part of the ecosystem.

You are right about this. Decentralized identity is a buzzword that will never reach fruition because it is a misnomer. Nostr creates a web of trust and becomes a defacto identity provider that the user owns outright.

I actually think it’s both. It’s a Layer 0 in the social sense, and it’s a layer 3 in the payments and commerce sense.
