After testing all my available options, I’ve discovered that BlueWallet is the fastest, easiest, and most versatile wallet for zapping. ⚡️

Here’s why:

1. It can receive zaps by linking it with LN.tips and Alby, so it has two static Lightning Addresses. (Three, if you count the LN.tips anonymous address.)

2. I can set any Lightning wallet as my default, so I can switch between my LN.tips, Alby, BlueWallet default, or my node just by reordering them.

3. I can choose which of my Lightning wallets to pay from on the fly.

4. I can transfer sats between wallets within the same app and reload with on-chain bitcoin if necessary.

5. It’s very quick, so there’s not much of a delay between sending a zap and returning to Damus.

6. It’s reliable. There have been no outages, and because it allows multiple wallets connected to different servers, any single outage won’t bring it down.

The only caveat is that if you choose encrypted storage, you’ll need to enter a passcode when it opens, so that either has to be turned off, or you should make the code short and easy to enter.

That’s it. Hope this mini-review helps some people! 🤙

Nice write up. Thanks

Blue Wallet was down for a couple of days a few weeks ago. If you're self custodial with Blue then no probs, but their custodial is liable to get hung from time to time. I got a no coiner to join Blue just b4 that outage a while back and felt like a real dick when 2 days into their new lightning experience I had to explain what was going on. I like Blue but reckon we should be aware of their probs.😊

Yeah, my setup does not rely on lndhub.io. I actually had the exact issue you described when I first started using it, and it’s a bad look for onboarding someone that way. I don’t keep any sats in BlueWallet custodial channels. Everything I use runs off of LN.tips, Alby, and my own node.

At this stage in the Lightning Network wallet user experience, there is no perfect answer. I’m just sharing what I’ve found works best after a lot of testing!

Yea, totally agree. Reckon we should point out that difference between their custodial and non-custodial. 😎

I just hate that feeling when I get a no coiner to start the pleb journey and something happens just after. Like getting someone to put their hard earned cash into $10 of BTC and within a few days its worth $4. As a long time pleb I know it doesn't matter but no coiners, well sometimes their timing couldn't be worse😁

Absolutely. It’s always the same thing. Whenever you want to demonstrate anything for someone, something inevitably goes wrong and you end up looking stupid and have to make excuses for why something you’ve done a thousand times isn’t working. It doesn’t matter what it is, but when it comes to bitcoin it just feels more personal.

Kinda like that sinking feeling when your wife catches you peeing in the shower!! 😂

Oh man, mine hates that. We’ve developed a system so she gets out before me and then says, “You can go do whatever you want now!”

Just spent the last hour and a half on the phone to the last 9 new coiners who I had got using Blue in the last couple of months. Happy to say they are all whole and didn't lose a sat. Felt like a complete dik though and I hope there is a wallet coming soon that is non custodial, lightning and simple for noobs. 😅

Giving it a go. Have you by chance linked it to a lightning node?

Yes, I mentioned that. I have it linked to Umbrel, and keep a reserve of sats there so I can reload other wallets when I need to, since connecting to my node is slower than using custodial wallets. It’s nice because the wallet from my own node is partitioned and doesn’t have access to the full balance.

How do you get a static address for Blue wallet? I stopped using it because they didn't have one.

For some reason WoS opens by default whenever I zap someone, even days after changing to ln.tips address in Nostr

None of the wallets you mentioned can give you a Lightning Address.

But you can have one using BlueWallet if you link it with LN.tips or Alby.
