Do you have any good (elaborate) sources on how e.g. Trezor does things better? Their site states open-source firmware which is obviously a plus, but are there comprehensive overviews for hardware wallets?

I'd recommend you into the direction of Bitbox ( https://bitbox.swiss/ )

I put my trust in swiss quality products, they also experiment with Lightning.

I have never tried Trezor so I don't want to comment on it

I see your point. I find it difficult to judge what *really* is good. The BitBox guys are very explicit about what it takes to get to the private key, which is great. I think they are more explicit than what I've read elsewhere.

Yes, it is difficult for me aswell but experience wise I would never recommend Ledger.

I have yet to try others like the Blockstream Yade which is on it's way.

Going to setup some different price classes to know what to best recommend to none tech people like me.

Just read a bit of a surprising message: the backup microsd card is not encrypted. That means that if someone acquires it, it's over. It is a bit contrary to the other claims they're making.

You can encrypt it seperately as far as I am aware.

Hmmm.. interesting. If so, the website does a bad job of emphasizing that.

* Bitbox02 Bitcoin only of course, any shitcoin is an increased security risk

The fact that they even have a shitcoin-friendly version is a no for me in fact

Understandable

What if one of my 2/3 keys is a Ledger?

Well it depends if you feel comfortable with their service, I used one longer back (no funds) and just now I checked in on it. I can not get along with the device, the software and the policies they have.

The device needs an update and the transfer of the update is not working lol.

It's why i noted this, glad I have no funds with it but I think it's worth thinking it trough, and check back on them from time to time because they seem not trustworthy (there is no intend to spread FUD or distrust in the company).

But if you are comfortable with multisig, you probably know better then I.
