People getting upset at simulation theory is similar to philosophical arguments over free will, or theological arguments over predestination. Implied in the simulation concept is pre-programming….that we’re a bunch of npcs with preordained pathways defined in code by whomever wrote the sim.

Many people (present company included) like the concept of free will, and see life as a choose your own adventure book. While much of our background environment and physical selves are hard coded (dna, physics, biology), we have the ability with the gift of consciousness to change trajectory and thus have some control of our outcome. We can quite literally alter the code.

There are plenty of games that adapt to your actions and you end up with very different storylines and endings. The character chooses but the code is unaltered. The code was set in stone but the way the model is programmed to behave changes depending on actions. I imagine the actual reality is more like the simulated universe you were placed into with very real boundaries of what’s possible, but the dynamic nature of your characters actions amounts to infinite possibilities since it’s not hard coded. One could live the life of an NPC, or they could do something more adventurous.

🤝 We agree.

Humanity has been on a continual path of code discovery….but can humanity alter the code? DNA can be altered, biology manipulated….the next 1000 years may see discoveries which enable us to alter physics, particle science, etc

Not sure the background code is as ossified as we think it is.
