I know a lot about bitcoin and investing and economics, but at one time I knew nothing about any of these things.

20 years ago I knew nothing about investing.

11 years ago I knew nothing about bitcoin.

7 years ago I knew nothing about economics.

So what changed?

Well I was curious and then I followed that curiosity where it took me.

I became obsessed with the things I was obsessed with.

Some people look at how expensive a house is and think they’ll never afford one, other people think “I wonder how I can make it cheaper?” And then they learn to build a house.

Time is going to pass.

Your time is going to pass.

It’s been 10 years since I’ve been in bitcoin.

That time passed and I know plenty of people who have nothing to show for it.

In fact that’s the norm.

I’m the exception.

You know why?

Because they weren’t curious about anything and I am.

I care.

I care about my life, I want things. I believe if others have it so can I.

Somebody out there has the life you want.

You can have it too, but you have to give a shit about yourself.

You have to talk differently to yourself.

You have to focus your energy.

You have to break free and very often you will have to go it alone.

But the time is going to pass regardless and do you really want to have nothing to show for it?

Don’t do it because you need to prove something to other people.

Do it because you’re not living up to your potential otherwise.

Do you want all of the best things about you to remain hidden and buried and to one day rest alongside you in the graveyard?

Or do you want to be who you were meant to be?

It’s your call.

I made my decision some time ago.

This is my politics

For most of my adult life, I worried, and was at times convinced, that I would be a “bad father.” Like my father was. I believed it was my fate. I now know otherwise. It wasn’t a curse, and it wasn’t my fate. I’m a great dad, and it’s my greatest pride and joy to be so. It took time to know it, for it to sink in, but here I am.

I have my grandfathers to thank for showing me so much of what it means to be a good man and, in doing so, to be a good father. That’s the most profound realization I’ve had: who you are precedes what you do. It’s your character, your values, and your deep-seated beliefs about what is good and right.

And the good news here is that the inspiration and insights for this can come from anywhere. Even though it may feel like a slow, meandering path.

However, no how-to book or advice on parenting will suffice if you’ve not done the work to be a good man. Work to become a good man. That's where good fatherhood begins.

There are plenty of games that adapt to your actions and you end up with very different storylines and endings. The character chooses but the code is unaltered. The code was set in stone but the way the model is programmed to behave changes depending on actions. I imagine the actual reality is more like the simulated universe you were placed into with very real boundaries of what’s possible, but the dynamic nature of your characters actions amounts to infinite possibilities since it’s not hard coded. One could live the life of an NPC, or they could do something more adventurous.
