There's a bit too much anger, and not enough Pura Vida on Nostr this weekend, isn't there?

Perhaps you should ask yourselves why? Because I guarantee you have a hand in destroying the core of the freedoms you love, when the freedoms others practice challenge your personal beliefs.

I unfollow or mute people who post nothing but Bible verses and politics. I'm sure you can unfollow or mute egirls. What is your goal? To shame them off of the platform so that they can tell everyone what a toxic echo chamber Nostr truly is? To get censorship enacted by devs and relay operators? Do you truly think you will change them or say something they haven't heard a million times?

Time to practice the Nostr principles you've all preached and bragged about for so long! Live and let live, curate your own feed. We ARE the algorithm. Stop being a pussy. If you're afraid of tits, man up and mute cowboy!

All good points, though…

What’s happening now though is literally “global.” (Though I have a feeling that there’s a very small active number of current users).

Many people highlighted the fact they didn’t want to see the nudity, and they weren’t religious prudes. They’re individuals that want to be able to freely scroll near their their friends, family, and kids.

I’ve brought this up numerous times, but we need ways to sort users, and complex questions cannot be answered through simple theory.

We’re building a new world here and it’s imperative that we figure this out so Nostr can truly be for everyone, not just the worst of us.

With freedom come responsibility. If we want our social media to be self custody, that means to weight of determining what we see is on our shoulders. I you're asking for custodial Nostr, so you don't have to filter your own feed 😘

It’s going to happen wether we like it or not.

At the rate we’re going the answers will be simple and brute force. Thousands of echo-chambers circle jerking themselves into oblivion.

I’m proposing there is an alternative, even if I’m not aware of what the alternative could or should be, I know it exists.

What inevitably will happen is what always happens. The bifurcation of those who actually seek freedom and open expression even if it's uncomfortable at times, and those who can not handle it and need walled gardens with wardens to protect them. Bluesky may not succeed, but something like it will be wildly popular for that reason.

And those on Nostr who so fervently preached freedom and no censorship are now being tested. The trials have just begun, and many will fail. Communities will fork. History often rhymes, sadly.
