Just a thought, but you could get a bunch of obselete miners for peanuts, and connect them up with "dumb" 24 hr timers from a discount store, to just run for those hours when you're sure to have surplus.

4200W on the cheap :)

Mining software usually handles the dropout gracefully IME

Thanks for the recommendation! great idea. what's the best place to buy used miners? That website I linked seemed to show options, those good options? also, are used miners safe from malware etc?
