Spain is undoubtedly a clear example of Bitcoin's failure.

Now, in 2026, the tax agency will monitor all transactions made on a platform called “bizum,” which is the country's standard for sending money immediately between individuals (similar to Revolut), regardless of the transaction amount.

Since 2025, the tax agency has also been monitoring all second-hand buying and selling markets, and many people have received requests from the tax agency for this reason or have had their accounts blocked.

Cash payments are also increasingly restricted. Last year, a limit of €1,000 in cash was set for payments to professionals. And if you go to the bank to deposit a €500 cash bill, you are treated like Pablo Escobar and have to fill out paperwork, and the tax agency is informed if they deem it appropriate.

Bizum can be replaced by Bitcoin (Lightning), payments to professionals can be replaced by Bitcoin, banks can be replaced by Bitcoin, and second-hand markets can be created with Bitcoin payments.

But none of this is happening, because even though Bitcoin is the best monetary idea of the last 2000 years, people are still just as stupid as they were 2000 years ago.

This is not a failure of bitcoin but a failure of people. People have allowed for this to happen. Let themselves be trapped by convenience and pacified by apathy. The alternative is always available. It's just not always more convenient.

Spain, that wonderful country where you have to pay the tax agency for giving money to your children, and when you die, your children will have to pay the tax agency for receiving your inheritance.

Y punto. De momento solo he usado onchain, y bisq.

Network effects and inertia are truly sticky. People will put up with misery of great magnitude. Look at any crime ridden neighborhood or despot country(N Korea Venezuela Somalia etc)😕

Once people start using Bitcoin to get around restrictions like this is when the "then they fight you" stage will really kick in... Ross and the Samurai devs are a tragedy, but we haven't seen anything yet IMHO. They will come after us and we will be blamed.

Bitcoin is not for everybody but for anyone

You sum up quite well. Same thing for liberty. The majority of people will always live without Bitcoin/Liberty, even if they know their existence, without having the desire to escape the system in which they are living.

It’s just a matter of time btc sitting in cold wallets gets targeted too. Be prepared for plausible deniability.

besides, what I hear most when I hear people from there is that instead of wanting to use bitcoin with the advantages it offers, they still want to continue exchanging it for fiat, causing the cryptocurrencies they had to become contaminated with KYC and take away part of their money. because of the abusive taxes they are adding.

so I still don't understand why they still want to continue depending on the banks to move their money knowing what they are like?
