The big question is how do we build a fuck you-tube? Their capacity is in the tens of exabytes

not an easy problem to solve but sorely needed

Perhaps it starts by developing a platform atop

#nostr that houses all the content that has been censored or shadow banned by YT over the years. That can be an initial value prop.

Secondly, it can draw in content creators by allowing zaps/V4V tipping directly through the platform rather than income via ad-revenue and running the algo rat race.

I'm sure this is easier ideated than executed. Would be great to see a truly decentralized V4V-based YT alternative.

the hard part here is actually hosting. Since it's videos the size is huge. This also means higher bandwidth servers which can't be run as normal relays that we have now. Then comes content delivery. Having just 1 server hosting 1 video at 1 location will make the video load slowly at further away like hosting in USA and watching it in china. So you need multiple copies of video at multiple locations.

It's not impossible but require substantial capital.

Thanks for breaking that down. This might be a controversial question but how has Odysee approach it? They claim to be decentralized.

How they did it is smart and one of the best ways we can achieve this. But I don't know how to make it work with relays (maybe people can host and relay and do Content delivery and indexing). But what LBRY do is they allow people to download a desktop client and from that people can assign some of the hard disk for content. Like I gave like 12gb for content in that you can decide how much will be for videos you watch and how much will be for the others.

I assigned 4gb for me and 8gb for others. This way they can be decentralized. But the problems comes no one wants to host content like this if they don't earn anything. In LBRY they don't.

This also opens people who host stuff to potential lawsuits like anyone can post a video right. It can be harmful terrorist video. I mean we have an ISIS account on nostr so it will happen. Then comes DMCA. LBRY can say they are decentralized. But they can control which videos to delete. So I don't know. It is also important to have a way to deal with DMCA or else you are a goner.

So The best way can be to just post educational videos in the beginning and to delete videos relay can just remove the video from indexing.

Excruciating problem..I work in the Video industry,

Been banging my head looking for a solution.

We need a team to figure this out.

Small low resolution files built into a Nostr database that points to them is a start. Multiple backups such as BitcoinTV. The videos would still be in centralized locations however unless… You had a large team that was willing to back up the files in a decentralized manner.

Expect an archive library that lasts less than a year unless…

You build a physical library of actual SDCards etc.

Network and storage... big problems to solve, we can get some ideas good/bad from https://sia.tech/
