I'm a jeweler and I see it all the time. Opals are not "miraculous", they are one of the softest gemstones and will deteriorate rapidly when worn regularly.
Like the softness of your skin, it stops when your cynic cup begins to fill.
Maybe, just maybe, don't shit on someone else's happiness. Here's basically what you said:

No. What I said was that opals are a bad choice for a ring that will be worn often.
Diamonds are used for a good reason. That opal, while pretty now will look like shit in a few years.
