Nostr does suck, it should give us pause that something so terrible is so much better than all that went before it.
I'll take sucks over fundamentally broken any day.

depends on what vertical you're talking about. in terms of performance, #notedeck is 1000x faster than the twitter web app. its really hard using twitter now, feels sluggish and bad.
on top of this, I get private local search, private grok. the only thing X has going for it at this point is the diversity of people. our clients are already better.
I think we are agreeing. When I say Nostr sucks it is part real and part tongue in cheek. It is deceptively simple, but that is because it borrows complexity from preexisting formats and protocols, the naive version of nostr could never work, clients and relays have to get kinda complex to properly filter the data.
That being said, it is actually the right idea, and I am particularly excited about NoteDeck. It is the right idea done the right way in my humble opinion. I think there will be some natural evolution to it. Web-of-trust, built-in relay for contacts only, index file exchanges so clients can choose what to request. (For apps with larger data files) Etc.
No, he's right. It sorta sucks. Everything very beta. But it definitely sucks the least and the steady progress out of sucking is tangible, whereas absolutely everything else just sucks more and more. Unbelievable how utterly everything else sucks.
It's been low-key amazing working on it. Totally addicting. 😂
Using it for large documents has been next-level. Feels like magic and we don't even have nostr:npub1wqfzz2p880wq0tumuae9lfwyhs8uz35xd0kr34zrvrwyh3kvrzuskcqsyn juiced-up stuff, yet.
Just fucking amazing shit. Whole protocol is total dev crack.
