Samhain is an ancient Celtic festival , the belief is that the veil between the living is at it's thinest on this day , and that the dead may cross over .
People contact loved ones , whilst trying to avoid bad spirts by dressing up as spirts themselves (confusing them as to who is human and who is a spirit ) . That's were the costumes come from .
It was imported into Amercia from years of Irish immigration .
Of course other cultures have similar festivals....
This is what the traditional Jack O Lantern looked like . We didn't have Pumpkins in Ireland , so for the longest time , they were made from turnip .

Lol I went as ‘your worst nightmare’ two years ago.
It was a big, cardboard QR code around my neck, and if you scanned it you got an image that said ‘Unvaxxed & Ready to party!’
Was my first ever Halloween party and thought I needed to go as something scary 🤷♂️😂
I'm sure you cleared the dancefloor in seconds , apart from all the people that paradoxically squeal mere inches from your face to tell you what a selfish bastard you are for exersising bodily autonomy .
Good costume , never thought of incorperating qr codes that's interesting . I wonder if you could do an augmented reality thing .
