If someone stole a large sum of money from you, wouldn't you want their bank account to be frozen during the course of the investigation and trial so that you actually had some hope of being reimbursed?

Indentured servitude. The stolen money is gone? The thief better get to work. Not got to prison. Working to pay back the principle amount stolen plus interest. A lot of interest. On a chain gang at gun point if they refuse to work for garnished wages.

Of course if they do take it that far they’d also be on the hook to pay for the guards.

This does make sense, yes. I have no real objection to your position. I am open to any kind of effective means of restitution.
