I understand why this misperception exists. There is a passion and authentic attraction that is hard to deny. Cults typically have leaders. Here, we’re all leaders. This is a cultural movement within a network.
I can see how they'd get that impression if they listen to the folx on twitter or reddit.

Yes, my father says this. It’s is a temporary phenomenon i think, people with similar values aligning around something that allows them to express those values seems cultish in the early days.
The memes, the btc jargon, the conviction and steadfastness across the board…it is cultish but it’s a feature not a bug at this stage. We are all singing in tune, clear messaging.
In the future when btc/nostr becomes self evident to many many more this may fade, until then we are early and happy culting!
Oh yeah. They see no need for it and dismiss it. Unfortunately I don't think most people will find the need for these tools until it is too late
Since 2009 I have eventually converted them all. I mean for them to come to accept Bitcoin to be their Lord and Savior.
