So … didn’t like where the first attempt ended up and am starting over. I have to like any of my art that leaves my house.

Glued a color print of my base sketch to a 9” x 12” art board. Covered it with clear gesso to create a paintable/non-slick layer. Scrubbed around with colored Stabilo pencils. Glued in paper with Moms handwriting (notes from an old garden journal I made her). Dribbled on some alcoholic inks.

Next layers will likely be acrylic paint and tissue paper and stamps.

Already I like this one so much more than the other. 😁

This is a series of notes for my art project of using a reference photo of Mom’s flowers as the basis for a mixed media artwork that will be used to create a wooden jigsaw puzzle with garden whimsy pieces as a gift for my mother. 💐🧩

What an interesting process...

The mixed media pieces I’ve created that I’ve liked the most started this way - a sketch or collage and then add to it. Like this one:

I am a big fan of practical yet beautiful!

I like the shape language, it definitely makes the flowers pop!

I feel like the hat and gloves are getting lost. But that might not be a bad thing. Like they are fun little details you notice after you see the vibrant flowers. Like you're reaping and enjoying what you grow.

Thanks! This is still very WIP. I definitely want the flowers to be the focal point, with more subdued colors for hat …. And the gloves will be replaced with a gecko - I found a gecko sketch my mom drew and want to incorporate him into the art. 🦎

That sounds cute 😀 can't go wrong with geckos
