On sobriety and restaurant work--
I'm a 12 stepper, a bartender and restaurant manager, a father, and a husband. I have a little over 4 years of sobriety under my belt, and I'm still a damn good bartender that has a blast being good at that job. Sobriety has certainly upped my financial and time management, and has propelled my responsibilities behind the scenes at work where I also take the role of operations manager today. Some people can drink responsibly, but I tended to fail at that. In the service industry it is commonplace to go out after work for a drink, and too often that turned into getting hammered for me. I know a lot of service industry folks deal with this struggle. I just wanted to testify that it is possible to work in that environment and be sober. I get more fulfillment at work and at home living a sober life. My sense of humor is strongly in tact, and my life is far from boring. It is less complicated after putting down the drink, and that has been a blessing. Different people have different paths for dealing with sobriety, but the book "Breathing Under Water" by Richard Rohr was instrumental for me. If anyone needs to hear it, I am proof you can work in the service industry and be sober. Cheers, and much love ⎕. #bartender #sobriety #nostrplebs
