I can get a refurb pixel 7 for $290 or a new pixel 8 for $550. Is the extra security hardware and service life worth the extra?

If you can afford it, yes, the Pixel 8 support for memory tagging is head and shoulders above 6/7 Gen imo or maybe see how the price changes when/if an 8a lands if MTE support is matched across.

I'd say it comes down to how long you keep your phones, the 8 will we supported for a few years longer. There's also security benefits to the 8 over the 7. The 8 is also slightly smaller.

Daily usage though there will be very little difference. If anything you'll notice.
