I have worked with jute. it was more twine than yarn. I dont recommend it. it feels so itchy and scratchy to work with and tore up my hands. you can't tension the yarn as you normally would and your speed drops.

the final product didn't even look that good. I crocheted a small pouch to try it out. maaaybe it would be okay to deal with if it was a more open, lacy market bag than a dense fabric tote bag or something.

Oooo I didn't even think about tension being a problem 🙄. I'm so spoiled to nice yarn that the cotton that's not smooth like Lily 'n Cream irritates my hands after a while. I think I'll just admire the bags and move on, lol. The ones I was checking out were what looked like a moss stitch and were bigger bags, so probably a nightmare or would take a year to crochet only doing a little every so often.

I think maybe the better option would be to cut a base out of something sturdy and just have floppy sides.

if you don't like dish cotton, you definitely won't enjoy jute.

not that you need to get into a new craft, but have you looked into basket weaving? 👀 techniques in those crafts would make lovely bags.

That's where I'm landing on it. I try to not be uppity, but it makes such a huge difference when the yarn just glides across the hook and hands. And my elbow and shoulder do not like the sticky (for lack of a better word) yarns 👵😂.

A friend got me a macrame book that has a really cute bag in it, but it's a little confusing to read the directions. I need to check out some videos on it... She told me that I needed a new hobby 😂.

macrame is cool too! definitely look up some videos. it kind of reminds me of making friendship bracelets, but huge.

😆 Yes!! I made her a plant holder and it turned out so cute, I forgot to take a picture of it. It was the most beginner pattern in the book and it took about 5 tries to get it right.
