This turned out to be an issue with the power cable. Ordered a replacement and the #bitaxe is back to hashing!

New to mining and this seems like a way I can start, is it something for a beginner? Could I do this with little to no knowledge of mining?

Yes, the #bitaxe is relatively beginner friendly. Buy it, plug it in, connect it to WiFi, do some minor configuration, and you’re off to the races.
