Saturday morning at 6 a.m., my phone rings.

- Good morning! This is Emma Smith, I’m calling on behalf of Sunspire Wellness. Is this a good time?

- Of course! Hi Emma, I haven’t heard your voice in ages! How are you?

- I’m sorry, do we know each other?

- Don’t be silly, it’s James! We live across from your mother. Just yesterday I asked her how you were doing.

- In Maplewood?

- Where else?

- Sorry, I don’t remember... but I moved away more than two years ago. What a coincidence! We have moisturizing creams on sale right now. Interested?

- Absolutely! I was just about to buy some. In fact, early this morning.

- That’s great! How many should I send?

- Oh, maybe six packs. There are a lot of us. Our family’s skin is pretty dry. But we’re leaving on vacation tomorrow. If you send them to your mother, I’ll pick them up when we’re back.

- To Maplewood?

- Sorry?

- Maplewood, Main Street?

- Oh, of course!

- That would be 390 USD, but for you, right now, it’ll be only 250!

- OK, I’ll leave the money at your mom’s!

- Perfect! Have a lovely morning! What a small world!

- Yes, indeed. All the best to you, too!

Half an hour later, after I’d fumed about how they even got my number and couldn’t fall back asleep — guilt started gnawing at me. I tried to call back, but only an automated machine answered.

I just hope her mother doesn’t over-moisturize herself!
