I already spend way too much time on Nostr with not enough engagement to match it… Why do I get addicted to things like this so easily?

Stick with it. And by, 'build a following,' aim to follow lots of others--and don't worry about 'how many' are following, but the quality of those you are following. Follow hashtags. Be curious. Slow and steady wins the race...! 🤙

Be content in your isolation. I will tell you, I have been satisfied with the level of engagement here. There was too much noise on Twitter.
People here are less likely to follow someone who post a lot bc there is no algorithm that could filter out low value posts.
Those are two different arguments: frequency versus value/signal.
I'm absolutely prolific, on some days, and I use the account for testing purposes, and people still eagerly follow. You just have to keep frequency balanced with value. So, if you want to post a lot, post things people want to look at.
