I had this happen as well 6 months ago. My prior experience told me to not mess with it at all (slipped disc). After a couple weeks I allowed my self to go for runs and other light exertions. I gave it 5 months of no squats or heavy pressure.
Started up squats again, but with 40-50% prior workout weight and the most perfect form I've ever done. My lower back is very pleased with me and I've been surprised at the level of soreness I can get from light-weight, perfect form squats.
