In my opinion it depends on what you would like to shortcut.

If you want to shortcut time it might be possible, but it is not possible to shortcut effort.

If you work more than other people, you might reach things faster. So you found a shortcut. But the effort and sweat must be put in!

80/20 rule sometimes applies. Take tactical short cuts.

Well on point! But it is still effort, and brainwork! No free lunch!

Don't get me wrong. I'm a fan of working smart, not hard.

But most important things in my life come only after tremendous amount of effort put in.

If you work more than others it's not a shortcut. Just hard work.

Okay. But to be fair, hard work is not enough either. You have to do meaningful thing. My favorite quite about this is:

"Success occurs when opportunity meets preparation."

So, you need to be prepared (hard work) and find an opportunity to be successful.
