The Phoebus cartel controlled the sector, at least in the western world. They ensured there was no competition or people would have purchased the better, cheaper lightbulbs.

Women are shorter than men. You may know some tall women. Some of them may be extremely tall, but women are shorter than men. Suggesting that evidence of the exception disproves the rule is disingenuous. No matter what should or shouldn't happen, nobody is getting punished.
