i find it odd.

when Malaya incorporates Sabah & Sarawak, it gave the people the same rights as a Malayan to vote.

the same can be said about Cocos Island when Australia annexed it.

and virtually almost all nations has the same practice

You have no freedom of movement though. Sabah and Sarawak can deny your rights to enter that land.

after annexation of sabah & sarawak,malayan living there are relativelt deprived of free movement there. but they still have peninsular malaysia to call home. they are not denied rights to voting.

on the other hand,legal wise sabahan and sarawakian are not deprived of any rights
