Ya know, I was a huge gamer back in my youth. My first console was the Intellivision, and shortly after I got an Atari 2600. Burger Time, that stupid ET game, and Pitfall were my favs. I was about 9 when I got the Sega Master system, and I was 10 when I got the original NES with the robot and pistol. It came with Duck Hunt and Gyromite.

I fell in love with Nintendo, and even developed a friendship with one of the Nintendo game counselors, who you'd call to get help with a particular game. She sent me Kid Icarus for my birthday, which was the coolest thing that ever happened to me at that point. I also had a joke published in Nintendo Fun Club News—What does Link have for a snack? Gannon Yogurt! Lol

I moved on to TuboGrafx16, which had great technology, but a really limited game selection. JJ & Jeff was my favorite. Soon after, I got a NeoGeo which was groundbreaking at the time because you could use your NeoGeo memory card in NeoGeo arcade machines, and basically resume your game when you were hanging in the arcade. After that, it was the original PlayStation, followed by the Sega Genesis.

But what I really enjoyed was the original Xbox. Assassin's Creed, Ninja Gaiden, etc. And then all of a sudden video games weren't so important anymore. I guess it's a result of being a teenager, and my focus shifting to different interests. I still played Xbox fron time to time, but the spark was gone. I still love the idea of games, but I'm just not able to get my mind back into it.

I play Civilization on Steam from time to time when the urge hits me, but whatever had me so totally obsessed as a kid is gone. But I wish it wasn't. I wish I was still Gung Ho for gaming, but I guess you can't force that sorta thing.

This is amazing! Feeling nostalgic, I went digging for that old issue of Nintendo Fun Club News to see if I could find my joke... And I did! Lol I misremembered it slightly. As published, it was

What does Link eat for dessert?

Gannon Yogurt

It was the #1 joke entry of the Feb/Mar 1988 issue. I would have been 11yo, just shy of my 12th birthday when it was published. Crazy that I was able to find it on the internet after all this time, 37 years later. This is what the internet was made for!

Check this image. My joke is the first one in the jokes column on the right side!

I still play games casually.
