I listen to a LOT of podcasts, including a LOT of fiction podcasts. Been meaning to nost more about that because I have many recommendations and thoughts about them.
One of the highest quality fiction podcasts that I most looked forward to each week, Bookburners, has just concluded.
Plot: dangerous magical forces exist trapped in books that the unwitting or nefarious use, and a special task force of the Vatican tracks down these outbreaks, kicking ass when necessary.
I was reluctant to give this podcast a chance at first because I figured it would just be one long slam against Christians. But for most of the show, I think they did a pretty good job of depicting a life of faith, and even when that started to break down, I think they still generally treated things with remarkable respect for a fiction podcast (sadly, a typically super woke genre).
The characters are so vivid and likable, and the showโs single narrator did a fantastic job with conveying their different personalities in her voice.
Nor is the story lacking; in fact, one of the authors is actually someone who I liked ahead of time, Mur Lafferty. And the theme song is pretty great, too.
Sad to see this one go, but it ended well ๐ฅฒ now I get to share it with you:
