I think these are two separate things; the e vs a tag is not really related to kind:1s replying to non-kind1s, which is the context issue.

e vs a is mainly about the version an event is tagging, which I think it's blown out of proportion honestly, but the NIP already recommends e tagging NIP-33s too 😅

Yes! I sent a PR attempting to add some clarifications to NIP-10 mostly as guidance for clients who ignore "a" tags in kind 1s, including Damus.

I tagged Will and he basically said I was "pushing information destruction as a core protocol concept" lmao

At that point the e vs a came up, fiatjaf sent me a PR for the UI to warn about commenting on another version - it now looks like
