So if a user has me in their "follow" list, but we do not share a relay, and our clients don't use the outbox model, they won't see my notes? Do most clients support outbox?

Friends, I can no longer post videos on Nostr. I tried multiple clients. I only posted 3 videos so far today and tried to space them out so I didn't overload the system. I ideally need to post around 6 or 7 videos each day and up to 20 for some breaking news stories. Do I need to wait longer in between posts?

Would be helpful to know which app you are posting from and what errors you are getting. Hopefully somebody has a solution

I tried posting a video from Coracle, Ditto, and Jumble. The video forever loads or I get an error saying the video failed to load.

However, I just tried YakiHonne, signing in for the first time, and it worked! Do we need to use multiple clients so we don't break the site?

You can use as many clients as you like, content generally syncs between them all seamlessly. Nostr is still rough around the edges in some places, media upload is definitely one of those places. Just use what works and don't worry about the rest. Also suggest setting up a wallet so you can send/receive zaps. https://coinos.io/ is a simple wallet to get started with.

Which site are we trying not to break by using multiple clients?

We definitely need some clients more geared toward video... I have found Coracle often struggles with loading media in general. Haven't had issues with Ditto and Jumble, but then, I often forget about Ditto and I have barely scratched the surface of using Jumble.

Yakihonne is growing on me. Some things seem really slow to load, though. Notifications in particular.

I'm trying not to break the clients or the Nostr protocol? I have no idea, haha. I'm new here.

Which desktop client would you recommend for uploading a series of short videos at a relatively fast pace on a daily basis?

Not sure... I haven't done any video uploading yet myself.

Are you uploading directly through the client, or uploading somewhere else first and then pasting the URL for the video into your note?

Let's throw this one out to the folks browsing #asknostr to see if they have some ideas.

What's the best desktop/web client to use for uploading short videos at a relatively fast pace? Would you recommend one that supports uploading to a Blossom server of the user's choice, or would one that just uploads to nostr.build with their 21mb limit be sufficient?

Thank you, Sir. I'm uploading videos directly through the clients from my hard drive.

Primal desktop doesn't work for me, and I'm keeping my eye on Damas desktop but for now it only has the option to upload from iCloud Photos which is workable but too many extra steps. I'm open to all other suggestions!

What's your average video size? Looks like Coracle defaults to uploading via nostr.build (Nostr clients don't host your media themselves) and they have a max file size of 21mb for those who don't have a paid account.

My average video size is around 30 seconds and less than 3 min max. I would prefer not to use nostr.build, if possible since I already have too many apps running.

Ah, but you are already using nostr.build without realizing it. 😉

Your last post with a video on it was uploaded to nostr.build via whatever client you used:

Examining the text-only version of this note revealed this:

Remember, clients are just glorified front-ends displaying data that is stored somewhere else entirely. Notes are stored on relays, but media such as photos and videos needs to be stored somewhere too. The client itself doesn't store it. They rely on media hosting services like nostr.build to host your media.

Nostr.build is the most common one, because it has been around the longest, but there are others. Additionally, Blossom servers are becoming a more and more popular way to host media, as it helps make media storage more decentralized.

I run my own Blossom server, for instance. Which means I am hosting my own photos and screenshots. But, if my server goes down, that media won't be accessible either. So there are tradeoffs.

Then again. On Blossom, media is content addressable, so if I have my uploads mirrored to other Blossom servers, clients can fetch them from there, even though my server is down.

Okay, well if I can't upload videos directly to clients from my hard drive, I guess I would need the most simple, user-friendly solution, being that I have very little tech skills as well as very little time, energy, and resources, personally.

Per upload, 50MiB

If you need a larger space and full management of media, there is paid option at different levels and tiers: https://getnb.me

You guys go and increase it again? I could have sworn you JUST increased it to 21MiB.

It isn't a site with server, just text and references. You need to host somewhere and then nostr clients can pull down to display. All major clients have hosting options to use for lots of daily videos, likey a paid plan is needed.

Tell you what, I think your news has been great so far. I'd be happy to contribute, or maybe a host wants to help give some space. We need more news here to succeed, and that includes galleries and videos.

This was great info 💯💯👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

haha my god just saw your profile line "Boyfriends kept telling me to stop talking. So now I run a news commentary.". Hilarious. Glad to have you posting your content here on nostr

I added my friend Katy she posts video all the time from Primal

If you use our free service, videos need to be less than 21MB. You can use Handbrake to compress them.

If you use one of our paid accounts, there is no limit to your file size, just the size of your account. We are integrated with Coracle, Damus, YakiHonne, Amethyst, Snort, Iris, and soon Primal.

You can copy a link from

Your nostr.build account and paste it into any nostr app.

Correct. And no. Most clients do not yet support outbox.

Got it thank you!

You bet!

Some clients have other ways around not supporting outbox. For instance, if you use Primal, they aggregate most notes into their caching relay, so even if someone you follow is posting to a relay you aren't using, it doesn't matter because Primal is probably pulling it in and will display it to you.

Indeed, on Primal you don't read directly from any relays in your relay list. You ONLY read from their caching relay, and you write to the relays in your list. You can also write to the relays in your list THROUGH their caching server, using it as a sort of VPN so those relays don't get your IP address.
