Thank you Seneca. I’m trying to subtly inspire people to replace politics with stoicism in their minds and abandon debating the politics part all emotionally and irrationally altogether. It’s such a waste of time and generates zero income. A close left leaning family member admitted to me at a Christmas party that they turned their back on the Democrat party because they said 2024 was the last straw. We’ve debated a lot over the years, so it took a bit of courage for him I think, which I tried to honor. He was oddly eager to share how wrong he felt he’d been, so I did zero gloating. I asked what that meant for him, and he said something to the effect of ‘I haven’t changed my ideals about wanting fairness for everyone or to lift up the poor, etc, I just don’t believe anymore that politics can do it.’ Bingo! So of course I ask what does he think can do it, and he says ‘something has to fundamentally change about the financial system because it’s completely unfair and inflation is killing everyone and the billionaires, yada yada yada’ which is why he has been voting democrat because I guess he thought they’d force some changes that would bring that fairness he desires, whatever those changes might be—- he doesn’t even know, but now he sees that that’s just a fucked up thing to do and the democrats fail to do anything effective towards that ill-inspired goal anyway. This is a guy who is not just a nocoiner but a coinhater so I just shrugged and agreed it is a pickle indeed! and went for more scoops of tiny meatballs and then kept my mouth shut, giggled about the changes coming to the financial system that will blindside him and added him to the list of people to mail a copy of ‘The Daily Stoic’ to. #stoicism over #politics
Seneca: "If you live in harmony with nature, you will never be poor; if you live according to what others think, you will never be rich."
S. would have been the dude with the secretly held cold storage, watching is bro Nero litterally burning down values and economic energy in his exuberance and Caesar mania.
Fun fact: his deep and naturalistic thinking helped Seneca become one of the richest men of his time.
Of course he couldn't escape the mental collapse of the biggest shitcoiner of his time, Nero, who at the end lost his plot quite a bit...
