I wonder if there isn’t much progress on it because of closely it aligns to the idea of paying for something that’s not scarce? #[2] writing and many conversations with #[3] and #[4] have really shaped my thinking about value for value.
Paywalls are as old as bitcoin. There is a reason why it never took off.
OnlyFans is not selling JPGs but early access to JPGs, along with direct interaction. This can work, but I believe #value4value to be superior.
Substack pre-paywalls showed clearly that a more honest approach works.

OnlyFans. It’s not stopping them, but it creates the functionality some content creators are looking for.

I’ve been skeptical with V4V, especially with certain types of content. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
I’m closely watching V4V as well. Wondering if it can make it against the big money from ads. If content creators are okay living on less, it can succeed.
Pay to Unlock is slightly different than V4V.
Curious to see how both of those models work on Nostr and where they end up intersecting.
Could be that the “free” tier of content is V4V supported with premium sitting behind Pay to Unlock.
I think it greatly depends on the type of content and the reputation of the creator too. A long form article is very different from unlocking access to a SW’s stream on zap.stream. Also, the stream quality of a creator will most likely be consistent vs the quality of an individual’s writing.
Everywhere I've seen this, it's been a trap. 90% garbage content to test the feature, no way to know if you are paying for something good or not. Need reputation first?
I think this would be a major game changer for Nostr attracting content creators like moths to the light.
