Unpopular opinion:

If Twitter included zaps in #bitcoin, #Nostr is dead.

The average user doesn't care about decentralisation, censorship and freedom, otherwise they'd all be here already.

The average user wants a simple, convenient and fast experience.

#Nostr is complicated and repulsive.

But I love It.

Disagree. There is a ton of hate for the mainstream social medias on places like Reddit. There are also a lot of people who don't even bother with SM because the experience is shit or they put their money where their mouth is and actually quit because it sucks.

Nostr has a lot more to offer than just zaps.

I say fuck the average user. Let’s keep building and getting better, and let’s keep making this place more fun

If we are able to do that. People will come.

Disagree. I’ve seen LOTS of communications platforms come and go over the years. Some were fantastic, often way ahead of their time, with polished UI and a solid UX. Poor marketing and other factors killed then all off.

Nothing is inevitable. Marketing and branding is more important than you think.

Very possible, Imho. But Elon is king fiat shitcoiner. He will be one of the last to understand Bitcoin.

This is true. Just cause it’s important to us, doesn’t mean it’s important to others.

Me: “Hey, download this app it keeps our texts private & encrypted”

99% people I know: “No thanks. I don’t have anything to hide”

Me: 🤦‍♀️

Everything new is rough and complicated.

Nothing has come into existence polished and ready to use.

Look up early twitter. Down all the time. Clunky. Weird.

Also people will move platform at their threshold of issues.

If you post cat videos on Twitter you will probably stick around on Twitter for a while.

No one cares about these things until they have to.

Same with encryption, Bitcoin, social media, etc.

I doubt Nostr would be dead if Twitter added zaps. Cats out of the bag now.

If Twitter tried to implement zaps, Musk would be questioned by Congress, and the government would shut down the zaps.

That's what happened to Zuck when he tried to implement his Facebook stablecoin.

Decentralization is not a marketing gimmick. It's a game-theoretic optimal strategy. This means nobody has to ask permission from the government. That's why decentralization is important.

Zaps is not the only, or even the most important, thing nostr has going for it

for now, yeah, perhaps. but once regulations hit, story might change. the world is polarized. average users as well. once half of them are forcedly silenced, story might change. then again: there’s a good chance of twitter becoming a client, either nostr’s or bluesky’s. then yeah nostr’d be dead. which I’d personally love, tbh. way better living in a citadel rather than in a smart megalopolis. ay?

Yeah, I agree with you, way better living in a citadel rather than in a smart megalopolis. 🤙

Twitter will never. In bitcoin you can not scam and this is what big corporations want to scam the average joe.. Twitter will never evea implement bitcoin

Disagree. People don’t care as long as they don’t need it. But they will need it
