They don't understand all the nuance of the laws they understand applied to your situation.
If you have the inclination and the time, DYOR with the help of an expert.
If they do not understand the specifics/nuances of your situation, they are not an expert in UK tax law!
They can quote the laws verbatim and understand them extremely well, but they don't have the time to understand you or your situation.
For many with normal lives this is probably fine (9-5 job, an ISA, pension etc...), but when you have levels of life complexity that lie outside of this, the tax advisors frequently jump to wrong assumptions and therefore wrong conclusions.
The same thing is happening to my relocation agent, he has no idea how to understand my life and my expectations, because nothing he's encountered before has any resemblance to me or my life.

💯 relate to this. I had to let go of my tax advisor for the same reason. They thought my questions were dumb ones without even trying to understand where I was coming from nor realised that I did my homework! ☺️
As a result I saved so much by doing my research! It pays to be informed and knowing your rights! 👌
