It is the communists modus operandum:

”In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, not to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is...in some small way to become evil oneself. One's standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to”.

Interesting. This is also interesting in another way: that of being challenged to lie. I have had to deal with a lot lately, where there is the claim that "he who speaks the truth has no friends" kind of accusations. This fits perfectly in this category of manipulation.

Yes. There are consequences for ones actions; If you want to live a life with self respect, then you have to endure some social pain. A good rule is to not weave a web of lies that you get trapped in.

For me, it's the other way around. An incredible amount of lies and bullshit has been spread by others. And now people are pissed off that the lies don't get confirmed. Everyone was massively engaged in the abuse when they still had "hopes", and when the lies were uncovered they quietly cowered away or continue the abuse as if another story/explanation will just magically pop up if they try hard enough.

That is of course extremely infuriating! Fuck them.

Yes it is. And, yes, that seems to be the only sensible advice. But it doesn't make it easy (at all).

Anyways, thanks for your insight and the quotes.

Same to you!
