I'm recovering from strep throat. I didn't go to the doctor until after 5 days of severe sore throat because sore throats have always gone away pretty quickly so I expected this to go away, not turn into a throat-blocking hell-cough-inducing nightmare upon waking. Now I'm on both amoxicillin and steroids. And I just want to say that while I've been sleeping a lot more than usual, when I was awake I was working on nostr. This is just the only place to be.

Hope you’re feeling better soon. I always found a shot of freshly pressed ginger juice always sorted out any throat or chest issues. It’s wonderful and sorts you out fast 👍
I don't have a ginger press. Is that a common thing to have?
I tried a lot of things like tea with lemon and honey. The only thing that felt good was ice cream or very cold smoothies. And gargling salt-water as often as I could think of it. I ran a humidifier in the bedroom at night. Took two steamy showers a day. Used both Paracetamol and aspirin, and strepsils lozenges with lidocane numbing agent. Even with all that the violent hacking cough (which may have been exacerbated by the holdover cough I had from bronchitis previously at the tail end of when I had RSV about 6 weeks ago) made the pain shine through.
Prednisone hits the inflammation very hard. Amoxicillin hits bacteria very hard especially streptococcus. This is a case where home remedies were not going to cut it.
Glad you either don’t have strep A or got on antibiotics before it progressed to scarlet fever. From personal experience don’t recommend. Feel better soon!
I hear you sounds pretty bad. The ginger remedy was always taken as soon as I felt anything and it seemed to always work. I’ve not had sore throats or chest issues for decades. Keeping the immune system healthy is important however our lifestyles these days focus more on other things. Hope it passes fast! And yes a juicer is fairly common where I’m from but it’s hard to beat my local juice lady 👍

Your case seems to need stronger medicines, but my grandmother used to offer me tea with lemon, honey and sage and was magic, maybe can give you some relief.

I'm on day 13 of my viral sore throat and it has not abated (without medicine, I can hardly bear to swallow). I don't think I'm the only one, I think it is going around these parts. Less serious if you don't have tonsils (I have tonsils). It is extra difficult for me because I just moved into my new house but I cannot run the wood burner until it passes code of compliance testing, and without running the wood burner the house is sitting at 13C.
And I wanted to take this time to thank all of mankind for the inventions that have gotten me through so far:
