The Milei thing reminds me of an idea/pattern: ideological libertarians and anarcho-capitalists *who are not technologists* are very weak to attack by the crypto scammers.

A less extreme example than this Milei one is Jeffrey Tucker, who fell hook line and sinker for Roger Ver's sales pitch that "Core is evil". The arguments about scalability have a very technical aspect, *as well as* a more philosophical one.

Still, not automatically giving Milei credibility for having been 'duped', who knows. He did always seem pretty ignorant of what Bitcoin is about though; I think he admitted as much.

I'm not sure which one is more dubious - that you need testosterone or that you need to know "crypto" that isn't cryptography...

Milei only has testosterone and monetary history.

lol excluding XMR from monerary history.

hard facts

a supply cap is bad monetary policy.

its just a cool meme. nothing else.

erik vorhees too: ~”just let the free market decide (fail) while i tax their gambling”

us: “we’re trying to upgrade humanity and make the world a better place. there is no time for intentional distractions.”

He's definitely within this paradigm.

But it does remind me that I'm very conflicted on all this, because I see no ethical basis for even trying to prevent people gambling with bitcoin, or indeed starting any kind of crazy crypto scheme, if it's voluntary between the parties.

But I'm unusual because I don't think fraud (as in, lying about the thing you sell) should be illegal.

Pretty clearly using some kind of social (or even government) status to scam people is about as low as it gets though, so, yeah, conflicted.

To see through this from a libertarian perspective you'd need more of grounding in monetary history / Austrian economics - Then you'd understand that even under a free market of money, the market will converge on one or at most two forms of currency. People prefer to sell their goods and services for THE MOST salable good, not the 3rd most saleable for reasons that should be pretty obvious.

Or in other words: There is no second best. 😁
