I’ve put off setting up my own node because I need portability, I move frequently so there are periods my node could be down. Plus everyone recommends machines without raid, I find it silly putting my finances on a machine without redundancy. Are there any mini pcs out there that can do a raid 1 with two ssds?

There's 10,000 redundant machines to recover from.

This may be the machine for me, can take 2 ssds https://www.bee-link.com/products/beelink-eqr5

Those ssds are not going to be used by Bitcoin, more than likely they will be used by the various additional non BTC related apps you’ll be able to run on your node. Like jelly fin, pihole etc

Two points: you are not putting your finances on your node, you are simply providing another copy of your finances on the blockchain that is shared across all the nodes

There is no need to provide redundancy, because that is a key thing about Bitcoin network it already has redundancy.

Your node will only download and validate a copy of the Bitcoin ledger.

Secondly, it’s ok for your node to come and go, the network doesn’t care. Just bare in mind that when your node starts up it will take time for it to sync to the point where it is current again

Have you tried ZEUS? People say it’s self custodial embedded node within an app, and for some reason it should work despite not being always online.

Just to confirm: You mean a lighting node. Right?

In that case, three points:

- Having so many funds in a lighting node is not quite good practice. LN may be better for the daily use only, and on-chain for the important part.

- If you travel constantly, it may be more convenient to have a node in a Zeus-type wallet, as mentioned by nostr:npub14w4qnk43lsllls2qnldj3vfcxtx5qvtsf3xlvxv9yha8afrxhmfqju3rwx

- If you mean a Bitcoin node, the best practice is that it refers to npub14w4nk43lllls2qnldj3vfcxx5qvtsf3xvvv9yha8afrxhmfqju3rwx
