If you had a budget of $20k for a used truck, what are you getting?

Depends on what kind of job the truck is going to have. Personally I think a good rule of thumb is if it doesn’t have an ashtray it’s too new. If you’re buying something with ashtrays you probably don’t need to spend 20k unless it’s a highly sought after, well preserved truck.
Its not going to be doing any major work. Occasionally loading stuff up, sometimes going camping/fishing, etc. But I like that rule of thumb. I’m totally ok not spending the full amount lol

Unless you are towing a camping trailer or have large kids that would be too cramped in the back seat of a smaller pickup, I would say a Toyota Tacoma. Toyotas might be an exception to the ashtray rule, even the new ones are reliable and cheap to maintain
Toyotas are great, no doubt, but they’re expensive and hard to find. If I found the right one, I’d definitely do it
